Had my eyes on this Satin Mahogany Kala for a very long time but it was out of stock. The moment I got an email from Bajaao saying it was back, I immediately ordered it!When I first removed the Uke from the box and cover , I had to stop and pause to admire how beautiful it looked. That dark brown mahogany with a tinge if red is really something to behold. Add to that the smooth finish and I was only holding it for the first 5 minutes to admire the build. The Uke doesn't come pretuned so I to spend a while in getting them tuned. Since it's new the strings kept losing their tune, but this is expected with new strings. After tuning it though I finally started playing and the sound was really good! The combination of the wood and the popular Aquila Super Nylgut strings work wonders. A rich middle-ground sound with good resonance. I'm not sure if the action on the Uke is high or it's just the Aquila strings, but I started experiencing finger pain in a few hours which is surprising since I've been playing for a very long time. The strings are top notch without a doubt and the sound is easily distinguishable when compared to cheaper ukes.If you're looking for a new Uke to begin with or even an upgrade, my advice would be to spend another 2k over what you'd spend for a beginner Uke, and get the Kala KA15C in satin mahogany. There are hardly any complaints I can think of, maybe just the fingertip pain all over again.
